WHO IS WALLY EDGE?

When PoliticsNJ.com began a journey into the world of New Jersey politics on February 1, 2000, we all lived in a different universe. Christie Whitman was midway through her second term as Governor, Republicans controlled both houses of the Legislature, 76-year-old Frank Lautenberg was retiring from the United States Senate, and some mega millionaire Wall Street guy no one ever heard of was running for his seat.

These eight years have been epoch times in New Jersey: two Governors and a U.S. Senator have resigned, a Governor and a U.S. Senator have dropped their re-election campaigns, record amounts of money have been spent on statewide and local races, more than 100 people from the political community have been indicted or arrested, and New Jersey went from red to blue.

When we started PoliticsNJ.com, now PolitickerNJ.com, we disclosed that Wally Edge was a pseudonym. We have chosen to remain anonymous, much like James Madison, Alexander Hamilton and John Jay when they wrote the Federalist Papers under the pseudonym Publius. That's provided an interesting dimension to our coverage of state politics, complimented by full-time reporters, columnists, bloggers and editorial cartoonists.

Under the ownership and leadership of the Observer Media Group since March 2007, PolitickerNJ.com has experienced substantial growth, with a better technological platform and a modern design that provides political news for political insiders. Now, the New Jersey model for state political websites is going national at Politicker.com, and Wally Edge is now writing political insider columns in ten different states -- with more to come.

So who is Wally Edge? He’s a onetime political insider with strong institutional knowledge and a considerable appreciation for the state’s political history.  By writing under a pseudonym, he’s able to carefully navigate the tricky waters of insider politics to provide our readers with detailed, accurate and up-to-date information about what’s happening in the local, county and state political arenas.  His opinion column is meant to be a bit edgy – that pun was intended – and meant to provoke the emotions and creativity of our readers. Our goal is to provide a close-up look at inside politics for political insiders, so who better than one of your own to help you see what’s really happening?
